Reasoning with Jesus (6-18)

Listen Here:

Remember that sermon notes are a guide and may not be exactly what was preached.

John 14:1-11

  1. Who is Jesus? Here in this passage of scripture the disciples and us get an insight into who Jesus actually is.

Jesus has said before: John 8:19, 12:45

Jesus chose 12, they ate, traveled with, and learned from Him for 3 years.

If we walk with someone we get to know them by what they say and do; we get to know who they really are.

Who is Jesus to you? If He is saying the very Words of God and you are not walking in them what does that mean, not living them out…

3 years = 1095 days.  1095 Sundays will take 21 + years…  How well do you know Jesus?  (margin of error + or – days, leap year and I do not “math” well).

  1. Reasoning. From what we see here it is okay to question Jesus, to reason with Him as to what He is saying, Thomas (vs. 5) and Philip (vs.8)

See Isaiah 1:16-20. What is the condition for being made as “white as snow?”

Jesus reasoned with Philip… Believe!

Why do you believe, what have you experienced, how long have you walked with God and yet do not know who He is?

How do you reason with God? How are we to reason with God today?

  1. Obedience, John14:15 – If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

James 1:22 – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16  – I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you

Love = Commitment

Romans 2:6-8– He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.

Ephesians 5:1-2 – Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

2 John 1:6 – And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.

Revelation 7:14 – I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Isaiah 55:6-7 – Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
