Remember that sermon notes are a guideline and may not be exactly what was preached.
John 14:12-14 – “Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
No one comes to the father except thru Him… John 14:6
Faith: Believing, Rack, Shack, and Benny (Shadrach, Meshak, and Abendago)….
“…our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Daniel 3
Ambassadors: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (emphasis added).
Authority: 7 Sons of Sceva Acts 19 Jesus’s authority was all in submission and surrender to the Father’s will. He spoke the Words of the Father, He did as the Father willed, he Walked in obedience! Our authority to ask in Jesus’s Name is in submission to His will as we walk in obedience. As we take that Next Step.
Our authority only exists as His representatives, when we speak His Words. When He is our all in all, we will have the faith to step out and be His people, we will see those dead in sin raised to life in Christ, the kingdom grow, and our buildings filled with those seeking the Lord! But not until we start believing and acting on that belief, stepping out into our Jordan, and walking by faith! Because it won’t be our will that we pray for, but His.
Analogy: Power of Attorney – “Stop in the Name of the Law”
Colossians 3:17 – Do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus.
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in Your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. – Matthew 7:21-23 (emphasis added)
Am I walking with God? Taking the Next Step in following Him? Or am I stuck thinking I am doing things in His name while doing things in my own?
We are so self-reliant, so self-sufficient, so independent that we do not rely on Jesus for anything, we may invoke the name of Jesus but do not have the authority or are not relying on Him for the outcome! We are trusting in something else or someone else to come through.
We don’t ask depending on His strength or His Power, we may say the words, if we pray at all, but too often we rely on our strength, our power, or our money to get what we want! Not what God wants not what God’s will is!
That is unbelief! If we truly believed in the power of Prayer, would not the altars be full during prayer time? We say we want healing, we want to see the church grow, we want to see people come to Jesus but do we pray in Faith expecting Jesus to move?
We are so full of ourselves that we do not take the time to pray, but those who have crucified self; who are denying themselves, know how much they need to pray. They are desperate for God, to see Him move…
Are the things I am asking God for in agreement with God’s will and purpose?
So prayers asked outside of His will and Word…
Are we praying in the power of God or in our own?
“To those who have had no agony Jesus says, ‘“I have nothing for you; stand on your own feet, square your own shoulders. I have come for the man who knows he has a bigger handful than he can cope with, who knows there are forces he cannot touch; I will do everything for him if he will let Me. Only let a man grant he needs it, and I will do it for him.”’ – Oswald Chambers /The Shadow of an Agony
We go to God in prayer, in Jesus Name, because we can’t do it!!!
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. – James 5:14
