Quarterly we have a Prayer Service, or Solemn Assembly. This week was one of those. The sermon was short and we spent the rest of the service praying over certain subjects. After listening/reading, please consider spending some time in prayer and intercession.
Remember that sermon notes act as a guide and may not be exactly what was preached.
John 14:15-17 – “If you love me, you will keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be in you.
Romans 8:26-27 – In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Helps us: The Spirit’s intercession is not carried on apart from us. In other words we have to take the Step of obedience to pray before he Helps us. This is Divine assistance, this is the grace of God manifested in us. He Helps us, BUT He does not do it for us! The Holy Spirit comes alongside of us in our weakness. He helps us to bear our burden to the Lord.
He will only help us to bear that load if it is something that the Lord Jesus would carry… (According to the Will of God)
Intercedes for believers: (Romans 8:27)
Praying in the Spirit: Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints. – Ephesians 6:18
But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. – Jude 1:17-21
The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Spirit given us. God is Love, God the Spirit Now dwells in the hearts of believers…
Praying with Action: So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. – James 2:17
WE must pray with action! Everything starts and ends with Prayer!!!
Are you praying and expecting God to answer?
Are you praying like it all depends on God and then taking action in line with your prayers?
Prayer with others is an opportunity not to be missed. Acts 4 When the church prayed…
