John 14

Ephesians 4:1-7 – Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to live worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope at your calling— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

4:1 What is it that you do if you believe in God and in His Son? Believing is..

What is the greatest commandment? Love! God is Love- 1 John 4:8, Romans 5:5

John 13:34-35 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (emphasis added).

Why should we walk in obedience? Jeremiah 7:23 – “…That it may go well with you

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.  – Jeremiah 29:11

And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. – 2 John 1:6

We do not avail ourselves to God’s Power…

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome1 John 5:1-3

If we want to see His Church Grow…

In Matthew 16:15-18He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

The truth is that if we are not walking in obedience out of love we are outside of God’s will!

True Church Growth was, is, and will be, a byproduct of obedience! Acts 2:42 – And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

The most convincing evidence that the Helper is alive and active in the church is when the love of God is seen and practiced in the lives of its people! By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” – John 14:35.

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. – Hebrews 12:14

May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. – 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

Holiness is works/obedience done out of love, legalism is works/obedience done out of fear.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. – 1 John 4:7-8

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

Let all that you do be done in love. – 1 Corinthians 16:14
