If We Abide, Part 2 (8/27)

*Unfortunately the audio is unavailable again this week as our recording system erred.  Our “tech guy” is currently out of the country.  Though we are hoping to figure the problem out before his return, it may be another week or two.  We apologize for the inconvenience.*

Please remember that sermon notes are meant to be a guide and may not be exactly what was preached.

John 15:1-12

Revelation 2:1-7

Vs.5 – Apart from Christ, separated from Him, we have no hope of salvation.

Vs. 6 – Where is the fire that those who will are not abiding in Jesus? Where is it they will end up?  Hell: …when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

See Luke 16:19-31 Lazarus and the Rich man then Mark 9:43-50 (50) Salt

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. – Matthew 5:6

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. – Isaiah 44:3, Romans 5:5

But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. – John 4:14

And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. – Revelation 22:17b

Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. – John 7:37

Called to be salt and… salt makes thirsty… we make them thirsty by our love for one another…

Love: Vs.10 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. – 1 John 4:16

We cannot love with the Love of God if we are not attached to that Love; we cannot produce fruit that lasts in and of ourselves, we cannot love like Jesus did apart from Him

To love placing no conditions on the other person, to accept them as they are, where they are, and not leave them… Jesus never left anyone, he gave them the choice… If you abide…

Spirit: God is Love

Turn to Revelation 2:1-7 – they left their first Love, they were not abiding in Christ (love) He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’ – Revelation 2:7

The Same Spirit that came upon Jesus at His Baptism lives in the heart of believers, There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.!  – Isaiah 11:1-2

He helps us in our weakness, but only when we avail ourselves to His Power. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. – Acts 1:8

the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you – Romans 8:11

Romans 11 cut off….

Those who abide in Christ, who constantly put their knowledge of God into action, who are empowered by the SPIRIT, walking in Love, seeking Truth, praying, and following Jesus, are true Christians, they are attached to the vine.

Questions to Ponder:

Are you Abiding in Christ?

How are you to abide in the love of Christ?

What is going to happen to those who are not abiding?

Who does God tell us will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction with no hope of salvation?  (see 2 Thessalonians 1:8b)

What can you do to keep yourself and others from that?

  1. You actually make it appear really easy together with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually one thing that I believe I might never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and extremely vast for me. I’m having a look forward in your next put up, I’ll attempt to get the grasp of it!

  2. I am no longer positive the place you are getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend a while studying much more or understanding more. Thank you for magnificent info I was on the lookout for this info for my mission.
