Chosen (9/3)

*Unfortunately the audio is unavailable for this week as our recording system erred (Technology, right?).  We apologize for the inconvenience.  We should be back to usual next week.*

Please remember that sermon notes are meant to be a guide and may not be exactly what was preached.

John 15:12-17

Happiness depends on happenstance, what is happening around us, it is based on other people, things, places, and events.

Joy is something that is within that we carry with us, that is grown and developed through faith and trust in God. IF we want to experience the Joy of the Lord, then we must walk in love and obedience; love and obedience are what Jesus taught would give us Joy, not happiness, but the Joy of the Lord! If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.  These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.  – John 15:10-11

We don’t just get Joy. It only comes from love and obedience to God’s will for our lives; not once a week, not when we feel like it, but a completely surrendered Life!

True obedience is love with hands and feet, if we are only loving with our words how is that obedience, where is the love of God?

Vs. 12-14 Who are Jesus’ friends? What does it mean to lay down your life?

Vs. 15 Master and slave relationship… slaves do as they are told there is no sharing of why, no explanation…

Vs. 16 Chosen! But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession – 1 Peter 2:9a

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. – 1 Timothy 2:1-6

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.Ephesians 2:8

We have been given response-ability through what was accomplished on the cross…

“Without God’s grace, we cannot be saved; while without our (grace empowered, but unforced) participation, God’s grace will not save.

We are response – able, or we have the response-ability because of Grace! To answer the Call, to abide in the vine and we have been given the Helper who empowers/enables us to live the life of Christ here and now!

In other words to love and be obedient so that it will go will with us as it is written in Deuteronomy 5:29, 33 and 6:18, 24.

You are called and chosen to do what? John 15:16 that you should GO AND BEAR FRUIT…

that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  – 1 Peter 2:9b

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.  Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. – 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
