Please remember that sermon notes serve as a guide and will not be exactly what was preached.
Persecution comes to Christians, believers, because they put Christ first. This is in direct opposition to what the World and its ruler preach and teach. In the world it’s me first, not God and others. Persecution always comes to the person who puts Jesus and His teaching first. it comes in many forms…
Jesus referred to the enemy of our souls as “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31). In fact when Jesus was tempted in Matthew… kingdoms of the world. The enemy is out to kill steal and destroy – he does that thru deception and manipulation…
Separation of the World and Christ; between the kingdom of Darkness and the Kingdom of God, is a defined and total separation. You are either serving one or the other. If God is your reality, your king, and your sole purpose then there is going to be natural opposition from the world!
God has called you to be a part of His Kingdom… you are either of one or of the other… that Kingdom is one of rebellion… FENCE
You were chosen to be different from the world, He called you out of the world into the kingdom of God. IF you have answered that Call then you have, as Galatians 2:20 says crucified the flesh…
Vs. 20 Are you keeping God’s word? Obedience…
Vs. 21 Do you have a relationship with Jesus, do you know him or just about him?
Vs. 22 They know what Jesus said and choose not to listen.
They hated Jesus because they would not heed His words and in hating Him they hated the Father. Look obedience is love and disobedience is hatred …
Is there enough evidence in the life you are living to prove that you are of God, in the Kingdom, to prove that you are an ambassador of reconciliation, that you are His friend, that you abide in His love, that you abide in The Vine? IF you think so where is the fruit?
There is no such thing as a nominal Christian, let alone a carnal one!
Either you are serving as a friend of Christ in the Kingdom as a part of His Church or you are in rebellion!
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. – Matthew 7:12-14 (The Golden Rule)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ – Matthew 7:21-23
Or do the things of the world hold you back?
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. – 1 John 2:15-17
Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? – James 4:4-5
The only way to overcome the world is to no longer be conformed to it or by it. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2
This is where the Helper is so needed, it is He that teaches us through the Word, it is He that brings to remembrance all that Jesus said as 14:26 told us.
Vs.26-27 He bears witness to us about Jesus and we are to bear witness to the World!
We not only need to be in the word. But we also need to pray… See verse 16
