Please remember that sermon notes are meant to act as a guide and are not necessarily exactly what was preached.

John 17

We love because He first loved us. – 1 John 4:19

Vs. 2 – Jesus had authority over the all flesh when He walked this earth… to heal, cast out demons, and to know our inner most thoughts.

IF we reject the authority of God, then whose authority do we follow?  Our own? Where will that lead? See Matthew 25:41.

Vs. 3 – Eternal life is found in knowing God and His Son that “know” is on-going it is an action something that we are doing today. How are you knowing God today?

What does it mean to glorify God? Show honor, Webster’s: to acknowledge the excellence of; to render homage to; to magnify in worship; to adore. How did Jesus glorify God the Father? By being obedient to His word and by accomplishing the work He had been given. (vs. 4).

When a believer acts in obedience they join with God in His mission in this world! Every act of obedience means that we are active in the battle for the Kingdom and brings glory to God!

Vs.11-12 – And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me.

Vs. 11-12 – kept, guarded,  protected, shielded, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. – 1 Peter 1:3-5

Abraham-Father of many/multitude, Adam-red earth/ground/dirt, Caleb-wholehearted/faithful, Elizabeth-My God is abundance, Matthew-gift of God, Peter-stone/rock

God’s name is the essence of who He is and His relationship to us. God is love, mercy, peace, power, knowledge, strength. In Him we find healing salvation, redemption, forgiveness, rest, guidance, and purpose.

See Psalm 91

The name of the LORD is a strongtower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination.… – Proverbs 18:10-11

Wolves- lions Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8

How does a pride of lions or a pack of wolves hunt?

As a flock of Christians we need to run to that strong tower, we need to be together where people are praying, where you can be connected, where God’s Word is taught, preached, and put into action!

We cannot become separated from Who He Is and in this world He is seen and is found in His church!

Where do you turn when you are in trouble?

All the promises of God are found in our strong Tower For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. – 2 Corinthians 1:20

God tells us in Philippians 2 That every knee will bow at His name, we will acknowledge the authority of Jesus one way or another on that last Day…

Believers, are kept in Christ. He has all authority, He is our strong tower, our mighty fortress, in Him believers have the promises of God!
