Daniel 3 and Daniel 6

What it Looks Like

So what the does bold faith look like??

ILLUSTRATE – Brief story of my inspiration

  • Saint, Elliot, Youderian, McCully, Fleming
  • Endless cycle of killing, you spear me, I spear you back
  • No one had returned. Superiors would not have allowed…

3 characteristics – constant, composed, and fearless – explain that in light of clip

  • Constant – occurring consistently, doesn’t waiver
    • SMA – Faithful when others were not, much like the last days
      • Even if He doesn’t… (3:18)
      • Job 13:15 – Even if he kills me, I will hope in him. I will still defend my ways before him.
      • Our God is able to deliver us – either in life or in death
    • Daniel knew what was happening (6:10)
      • “Prayer in private results in boldness in public.” – Edwin Louis Cole
      • It was only a 30 day decree, he could have hidden
        • But the testimony would have been lost….remember those souls??
      • He continued …as he had been doing previously (6:10)
    • They endured because they were focused on the unseen
      • 2 Corinthians 4:18 – So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
    • It is Well – Horatio Spafford
      • Son died of pneumonia, same year lost business in Chicago fire
      • Moving to Europe – wife and children left before him. Ship sunk.  All 4 daughters died.
      • He penned this song on his way to be with his grieving wife.
        • “whatever my lot though has taught me to say…”
      • Stable or Composed (has self-control)
        • They did not express anger, passion, or insult. They didn’t rashly defend themselves.  Good conduct, calm, and sedate.
          • They could have argued their history with Neb…
        • The king is resolved and so are we, so it is already determined (3:16)
          • Daniel could have guilted the king….
        • Fearless
          • Fear did not compel Daniel to close the windows (6:19)
          • When no room was left to question right or wrong – life and death were not to be considered.
            • Two Kingdoms….
          • By faith, they chose to suffer rather than sin
          • When we live in fear, when we make decisions – we throw away our souls in order to save our lives….no, not even our lives, our jobs, our homes, our reputations… (doesn’t even make sense)

What It Does

ILLUSTRATE (Bold faith causes Bold reactions) – End of the Spear – result of bold faith….  Families, salvation, grandfather – end of movie – “today there are more Waodani grandfathers than ever before because the killing has ended”

Bold faith causes bold reactions.

  1. Creates Enemies
    1. These men, all 4, lived their lives with a bold faith. And people noticed!  Their lives were so different, that it was impossible to miss.
    2. SMA (and Daniel) and Chaldeans in previous chapter. Were they embarrassed?  Were they set on taking these men out?
      1. (3:8) “certain” Chaldeans
    3. Then we have Neb – Irrational anger
      1. He already knew who they worshipped!! Daniel 2:47 – The king said to Daniel, “Your God is indeed God of gods, Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, since you were able to reveal this mystery.”
      2. And he was way over the top!
        1. Direct defiance of God (3:15)
          1. Exodus 5:2 – But Pharaoh responded, “Who is the Lord that I should obey him by letting Israel go? I don’t know the Lord, and besides, I will not let Israel go.”
        2. Hot flames, ties, etc.
      3. Daniel – (6:3) – “there was in him” an extraordinary spirit
        1. But they knew they had to get creative (6:4-5)
      4. It is said that for every right work, a man is envied. “The better a man is, the worse he is thought of by his rivals.”
      5. IF WE ARE LIVING OUT A BOLD FAITH – PEOPLE WILL NOTICE. AND THERE WILL BE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT LIKE IT.  PREPARE TO MAKE SOME ENEMIES.
    4. Showcases the Power of God
      1. SMA- Our God is able to deliver us – in accordance with His plans
      2. Tied up and threw into a furnace – you don’t come back from that
        1. Men who threw them in (3:22)
        2. Neb sees them – walking around, no ties, 4 men (3:24)
          1. Isaiah 43:2 – You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire, and the flame will not burn you.
  • Everyone amazed, not even a scent of smoke (3:27)
  1. Daniel – Cast into a lion’s den!
    1. Darius – (6:16) – Your God will deliver you… (get to this more in a moment)
    2. An angel was sent from the Lord and NO injury found (6:22-23)
      1. Maybe they just weren’t hungry….
        1. (6:24) – they hadn’t reached the bottom….
        2. Think about it this way – a dog that is muzzled is much more fierce once the muzzle is removed….
      2. WHEN WE LIVE WITH BOLD FAITH WE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR GOD TO MOVE IN BIG WAYS! THIS MEANS LIVING COUNTER CULTURALLY, DREAMING BIG, TAKING RISKS, AND SO MUCH MORE!
        1. Die with a faith so big that when you take your last breath and see God you will say, “I knew you could do it!” – Louie Giglio
      3. Produces God’s Favor
        1. SMA – Prosper (3:30)
        2. Daniel – Enjoyed success for two kings (6:28)
      4. Draws Other to God
        1. SMA – Neb “gets it”
          1. 3:28-29 – “Here is a noble testimony from a heathen…
            1. Second time though…. Remember Daniel 2:47 – The king said to Daniel, “Your God is indeed God of gods, Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, since you were able to reveal this mystery.”
            2. Even though he still gets it wrong – eventually he gets it right!
              1. Daniel 4:34, 37 – But at the end of those days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my sanity returned to me. Then I praised the Most High and honored and glorified him who lives forever… Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and glorify the King of the heavens, because all his works are true and his ways are just. He is able to humble those who walk in pride.
            3. Why does he get it? Because of the bold faith of these FOUR men…
          2. Daniel’s bold faith had already begun to draw Darius toward the one true king
            1. Darius worked all day to undo the foolishness he had done to no avail (6:14-15)
              1. “sole desire to save the man from whom his integrity and ability he valued more than the whole crew of base plotters…”
            2. He told Daniel, as encouragement to himself, that His God would save him (6:16)
  • Fasting – food and entertainment (6:18)
  1. Next morning – “servant of the living God” (6:20)
    1. “The king was convinced that unless his God save him, his destruction was inevitable.”
  2. A decree made by yet another heathen king to the Living God (6:25-27)
  3. DO YOU EVER HEAR SOMETHING AND IT IMPACTS YOUR SOUL? I HAD A MOMENT LIKE THAT PROBABLY ABOUT A YEAR AGO: “There are souls on the other side of your obedience.”  BOLD FAITH IS OBEDIENCE.  BOLD FAITH BRINGS PEOPLE INTO THE PRESENCE OF THE ONE TRUE GOD.  AND THERE HE CAN BRING THEM FROM DEATH TO LIFE.

APPLY – Is bold faith even have a choice?  If I am obedient, and live with a bold faith, I’m going to make a few enemies BUT the power of God will be revealed, souls will be saved, and I will stand in God’s favor.  There isn’t a choice!  There are souls on the other side of my obedience.  Bold faith is the only way to live.  Is your faith a bold faith?  Here is the checklist:  Is your faith fearless?  Is it self-controlled?  Does your faith remain constant?  Is your faith creating enemies?  Revealing the power of God?  Drawing others to Him?  Or producing His favor?  If the answer is no to any of these, then…..

Take a step of bold faith today, come forward to the altar, humble yourselves at His feet, allow Him to take your fear, to pull you close, and give you peace…
