John 19:38-20:10

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”

Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

“Jesus loves me this I know” why? “Because the bible tells me so”

Day of preparation, Sabbath, 1st day of the week

You go to great lengths to be with the one you love, you invest in them with your time, with your income, with your energy. You anticipate your next meeting, you drive for hours to be with them if only for a short period of time, you jump at any and every chance to be together!

The disciples love for Jesus was like this: it changed their lives. Love plus faith lead to action which is believing!

Joseph and Nicodemus: Talmud (ceremonial law, history etc.) Both rich men, Nichodemus goes from skeptic to a defender to a committed follower of Jesus in John 5 then in 7 the  officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!” The Pharisees answered them, “Have you also been deceived? Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”    Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?”replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

Mary of Magdala: Mary Magdalene Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” – Matthew 28:10

Magdala was a successful part of the fishing industry in Galilee and was also known as a manufacturing center for fine wool and woolen dyes. Mary seems to have been financially independent and according to Luke 8 one of the ones who provided for Jesus’ ministry

Peter and John – Peter and Andrew, James and John, Zebedee, sons of Thunder. Peter had denied Jesus yet Mary went to Him and John 1st  Fishing…

Each of these people, these disciples of Christ, had to make Major adjustments to their lives in order to follow Jesus in order to be Christians in order to live out their faith in God by believing!

Knowledge, Faith, and love working together push us to action and when we act on our faith, that is believing!

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. – Hebrews 12:22-24

Digging Deeper:

  • Compare the above people with Luke 18:18-30; what was the difference between those that chose Christ over this one who did not?
  • Where or in what do you invest your time, money, and energy?
  • Based on how you answered the last question who or what do you love?
