John 14:1-7, Joshua 3

As followers of Jesus, the Church is to be placemakers/bridge builders.

The Church, you and I as followers on the journey, is called to be placemakers to be building bridges that span from there to here.

We made places to gather as the church, we bridged the gap with our buildings for people to come and know about salvation and God ,and people came, but  that was long ago when the local church was the center of the community.

But the river does not flow like it did. And our buildings are not being used as they were. We have to build a bridge, make a place, were we can make a difference, where we can be the bridge.

Choluteca
Built to withstand a hurricane, this bridge remained intact.  However, due to the hurricane, the river changed course, leaving the bridge completely irrelevant.

The communities in which we live, work, and play are no longer church centered and, for the most part, they do not acknowledge that God even is, at least not in their everyday lives.

I believe that we, the Church, have forgotten our calling that we are to GO out into the World, to be in the world, but that we are not to engage in worldly activities, we are not to be of the World.

When was the last time you were out in the world as a representative of The Kingdom of God? Because, as a believer, a Christian, it should be everyday!

Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. – 1 Corinthians 15:34

The disciples went out into the World and turned it upside down by their obedience in preaching the good news (Acts 17:6)!

When God tells us to move we have a choice. Just like God’s people in Joshua 3.

We can move forward and be blessed, or we can stay where we are and become stagnant. Lifeless, stuck, frozen…

If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31

One thing we know for sure, if we are going to follow God it is going to take faith, love, and obedience.

God is going to ask us to do things that, to us, seem difficult if not impossible. He is asking us to go where we cannot see.  He is going to take us places we have never been, ask us to do things we have never done nor know how to do.

And until we are willing to take that Next Step of Faith, in obedience, we will never accomplish what God wants us to do, go where God wants us to go or see what God wants us to see.

But if we do take that Next Step on our Journey we are going to see the improbable become do-able, the impractical become possible, and the impossible become reality.

We are commanded to Go out into the world, not to sit and wait for the world to come to us. We are to be the church to the communities, not just another church in the community! We are to turn our communities upside down by taking the next step of obedience.

Questions:

  • When was the last time you were intentionally out in the world as a representative of the Kingdom of God (His Church)?
  • Are unbelievers to come to the church or are we to “Go” to them?
  • As a part of this congregation of God’s Church how are you going into the world for Jesus?
  • If not already involved; what are you going to do to become an active part of what God is calling us to do? (See Matthew 28:16-20, John 17:18, 20:21 with Matthew 22:36-40, Luke 10:25-28)
  • “Do you presently see God at work around you? Remember, that is His invitation to join Him.
    • Are you willing to respond to His invitation to adjust your life and join Him?
    • If not what is holding you back?”
