Luke 15

Lord’s Prayer, John 3:16, God Is Love (1 John 4:8), God’s word.

Do you love God? Do you know what hurts Him and what brings Him Joy? How can you say you love Him if you don’t know these things?

When something of value is lost we do not despise it, we search for it!

Vs. 2 We need to be thankful that Jesus does receive sinners (tax collectors were lumped in there).  Salvation, is the most difficult for those that do not think they need saving… no grace… no ¼ given, Pharisees…

Vs. 4-7 It is the nature of sheep to wander, get dirty, thorns, wounded

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. – Isaiah 53:6

God takes the initiative… For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.  Jesus! (John 10)

Vs. 8-10 Coins are usually lost through neglect or from not being careful or aware of what we have.

The work of the Holy Spirit in salvation is to illuminate and cleanse…

These 3 parables are examples of what John Wesley called Prevenient Grace: the grace that comes before Saving Grace: God’s divine intervention enabling us to respond to God’s offer of saving Grace. (John 16)

Two candles. Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart. – 1 Peter 1:22

but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7

In 2 Corinthians 4:1-6, the Holy Spirit tells us: Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
