Luke 15

Lord’s Prayer, John 3:16, God Is Love (1 John 4:8), God’s word

Write this down: What is going on in the physical is a manifestation of the Spiritual.

Jesus, Holy Spirit

Vs. 11-32 What we see here is God letting a sinner go their own way… Romans 1 Did not the father, in this parable, turn the son/sinner over to his sin? Keep in mind that everything he had came from the Father… But what else did he do? Watching for his son’s return!

It is in each of us to be independent, which is at the root of the sinner, continuing in their sin. Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:6 and Romans 1)  – it is that “No one is going to tell me what to do” attitude that ends up killing us spiritually. Sower/seeds – all but one grew…

God loves you and has a plan for your life. Do you think it was in the Father’s plan for the son to leave? For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. – Jeremiah 29:11-12

The prodigal looked at what he had or didn’t have… RYR

When the prodigal turns back to go to his father he has no right to claim a blessing, no right to expect a welcome, and he has nothing to offer except a life of service in repentance of his previous actions.

If you want to be near the King you must move toward the King!

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? – Romans 2:4

He is prepared to fall at his father’s feet and hope for forgiveness and mercy (1 John 1:9). This is a picture of what conversion is all about: ending a life of slavery to sin through confession to the Father (Romans 6:6), faith in Jesus Christ, and becoming a slave to righteousness, offering one’s body as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) through the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

Again, everything he receives comes from the Father.

Vs. 24 – the wages of sin… all die/are dead in their sin
